Locall cross racer and myspacer Julie nailed it on the head today with this email.
So let me see if I've got this right:
1) You got hammered on Saturday night
2) You were really hungover on Sunday
3) You puked on the way to the race 4) You had nothing to eat before the race 5
) You have one eye to see out of
6) You still finished 19th out of 23?!?
You must be a pretty damn good rider. That course freaked me out - I don't yet totally trust my technical bike skills - but I keep surprising myself in a good way. Can you see anything out of your right eye at all?
HA! All true except for the good rider part. Thanks Julie! The last cross season I raced - two years ago I missed last year due to injury - most local races has a single speed class, which was cool but I prefer racing against gears. My best race was at Agrosy Casino park and I got 2nd in the SS class. I had drank all night, slept little and was beer belching on the start line. I took the lead in the frist lap - in no small part to Frank Tuesday who attempted in typical FT fashion to block out every one in the first conrner... I snuck around - I held the lead until the last lap. I didn't actually realize it was the last lap and 2nd place caught me right before start/finish. I thought we were starting the last lap and could regain ground... not so. Oops... Never let anyone pass you after the first lap...you should be doing the passing.
Lots of riding planned for the weekend. Alley Cat Saturday afternoon. Cranksgiving... check out www.thesweetestplum.blogspot.com for all the gritty details.
And todays entry....
Wow. I don't think I have done anything besides ride my bike and drink beer for the last 4 days. Awsome... well except Friday unless you count the 1/2 mile cruiser ride to the bar... ok it counts.
Today I finally I got on some dirt. Made the trip out to Larry town with Melissa and Emily to meet up with Joshua, Caton, and Laura at the River Trails. We bet the other kids there by a bit and wasited no time hitting the trails. Great trails if you have never been there by the way. Very fast flowy twisty 10 miles of dirt loving good times. And we ripped it apart. 2 1/2 laps of pulled by all... well except Laura but that is understandable it was her first off road ride. She had a blast though, as did everyone else. I actually didn't see much of every one else while we were riding. We got pretty spread out and we were all having a great time pushing our selves. It was great to ride some non techincal fast flowy single track that didn't beat you in the rocky stuff and make you feel as if you didjn't have any speed. I had considered swapping wheels and running a lap fixed but I was having too much fun to bother.
Nice cap to the long weekend. Its back to the grind tomorrow and I was happy I rode some much this weekend since this week the weather is supposed to get shitty... well more like this time of the year normal. The weekend was a beautiful sunny 60 degrees... Wednesday it is supposed to to drop back to 30 and raining.... yuck.
Post ride dinner and drinks at the Free State Brewery. Cheeder Ale soup... good stuff. They also had some tasty Copper Head Ale on cask too. Picked up a growler of Oatmeal stout... fighting the urge to open it and put it down tonight....must fight the urge... must fight....
