New bike stuff, bike rumors, and rain

It was sunny and 70 all day today... looked nice as I looked out the windows at the shop.
I was at a good stopping point so I boogied out of work and hauled ass home to get out on the bike. It is supposed to rain tonight and I wanted to put in a couple of hours before that happened... didn't happen.
Speeding down the highway I could see the black clouds rolling in from the south.
By the time I was home, it was getting darker closer, and then the thunder started.
I quickly changed duds and it grew darker and thundered more.
I hopped on the BFM and hauled ass down the street determined to get some kind of spin in.
I noticed two things right away followed closely by the third.
First the temp had dropped from 70 when I was at work to 55.
Second the new tires that I installed last night (more on them to follow) were rubbing the fenders.
Then it started to rain.
Worrying that i was rubbing holes in my new tires, I sprinted back down the street jsut ahead of the sudden down pour that was charging along behind me.
I pulled in the drive, hopped off the bike, opened the front door, stepped inside and then the dumping started.
Well damn.
So much for that ride.
Don't get me wrong I don't mind riding in the rain too much... but not today.

So I picked up some new tires yesterday, Specialized Borough CX 700x42c.
They are pretty sweet tires.
I haddn't seen them in a 42c until we started getting the Globe instock at the shop so I ordered a pair.
Installed them on the BFM and they fit!
I was worried that they would touch the fenders but they didn't.
Well until I pumped them up to 80 PSI and hopped on it to ride tonight.
Then they touched lots of places.
No worries; a simple fender adjustment and we are back in business and ready for the next ride... when ever that will be.

Also in the new bike stuff department... kits.
I put in my order and sent my money for my BKB kit. Placed an order for the new Vanderkitten kit today, and hopefully soon it will be time to order up another Evil kit.
This year I told myself that I wasn't going to spend money on bike stuff... so far I have failed to do so.
I also would like to get a new fork for the Monkey and I am thinking Bontrager Race X Switchblade. I know a couple of guys who are riding them and dig'em.
Plus the price is right, compared to a Pace or a White Brothers, and no weight limit like both of them. Thinking this could add to my ride experince greatly... boss hateing it or not... shhhhh... we don't carry any Trek product, lucky for me I have buddys in other shops that do.

Speaking of spending money on bike stuff...
In the rumor mill today is possiblity of a 29er comming out of Specialized.
Rumors of a hard tail with slideing Paragon style rear drops have surfaced.
I like this idea.
I love my Surly (and I would love to have a new one... dig the new blue) but I have been considering a lighter alumminum 29er for some time and wanted something that we stock (we do sell Surly)... the Specialized could fit the bill if it really comes about in May as rumored.

Now I guess I sit back, listen to the rain, and watch a movie.
