Crocodile Rock

Raced at Perry Lake on Sunday. HSPXC#1 “Crocoadile Rock” .
Got there later than I wanted to. I had slept in a bit more than I should have and then took the wrong turn twice... it was like I had never been to the park before, I don't know what my problem was. Stumbled across a motorcycle race in the parks ATV area and watched the road race blow by. I found my way finally to the park. Too late to be of any help the the Heartland boys. Oh well. Signed up and changed duds to get in a warm up.

I road a warm up lap on the beginners course. It was fun and I hadn't ridden off road for a while and found myself pushing hard not warming up. I was having fun but this will turn out to be a mistake.

Off the gun I was 2nd place going into the woods on the SS up against gearies in the Clydesdale class. Bounced around from 2nd to 4th for more than half of the first lap (roughly 8 mile laps) and then flatted. With bolt on wheels there is no “fast” tube change so I took my time to make sure it was done right. It was pretty hot for what was technically the first race of the season and I think I was a bit dehydrated. Hopped back on and almost fell back off. Hummmm... not good. I just wasn’t feeling it. I was in between 4 sets of small steep short rocky rollers. I walked up, rolled down, walked up again. My rythem was gone and this was the worst place to try and get it back. I found a good spot where I could see both trails and cheered and/or heckled the racers for a bit. I decide that hanging out in the woods wasn’t getting me any closer to the beer so I finished up my lap and DNFed. It was a good time all the same. Nice to be out on the dirt for the first time in a while.

The photos are the before and the after.

A friend of mine was there snappign pics and you can see them over here.
