Pushing North

I was breezing though Prolly Is Not Probably this morning while I wait for Jones and came across this little vid.
I've really only done a minor amount of touring in my life. Mostly consisting of the RAGBRAI. I've always enjoyed it but its always the same time of year with predictable weather.
A tour like the one in the video would be a whole different experience.
This new film entitled Pushing North covers Marcus Johannes and Dirk Badenhorst's trip from Key West, Florida to Fairbanks, Alaska. A journey that took the two cyclists over 6000 miles and 89 days to complete.
Something like this is one of those things I've always wanted to do.
This clip makes the movie and doing such a trip really appealing.

Post RAGBRAI depression

I've been home for a couple of days & its starting to set in.
I go back to work tomorrow so I'm sure it won't last long.
I think I'll have plenty to do once I start working.
Speaking of plenty to do. I really am going to do a report for the RAGBRAI this year. Last year I tried and got nothing. I've been going over my maps and looking at my photos making notes since I got home Sunday. The trick will be moving the report from paper notes to this set up.
Plus making it more interesting than: We rode to that town. Drank beer then rode to the next town.
I walked through the route last night with the map at Mr. Joshua & Laura's new home last night. Realized later I didn't really tell them any good "stories" as much as I just told them where I went. We'll figure something out. Until then (hopefully soon before I get busy with real work stuff) I'll fill this space with a video.
I experimented a little bit on the RAGBRAI with video journal stuff.
It didn't go great but we'll give it a shot anyway.

***************2 hours later************************
OK.
I gave it a shot and they won't post on here for whatever reason
So I'll just direct you to my Flickr page where they are along with my 280-something photos I took over the 9 days of riding.

ragbrai_2010_map_large
I don't know Ron but I sure do thank for him the use of his 2010 route map. Strangely it was the only one I could find

I head out Friday, the 23rd, from Omaha with the Dutch .
The official RAGBRAI starts Sunday, the 25th, out of Souix City.

The Go, Dutch, Go! Plan:

Friday, Saturday & Sunday we'll work our way North East to the official route via Earling & Breda to Pocahantas.
We pick up the offical route there on what for RAGBRAI is Day 2 to Algona.
It will be our 4th day of riding.
Ah yes.... good times are a come'n

I'm really ready for a vacation. The RAGBRAI fits the bill nicely.
Its a great time that I think everyone should do once.
I think this is my 10th pilgrimage
I've made some great friends on the RAGBRAI & I can't wait to see them

4 days...

Once again this year I'll be attempting to make posts from the road to my Twitter
Granted this is dependant on getting phone reception. Which in years past on the RAGBRAI has been spotty. We'll see what happens
I'll be back to file a full report next month
